Choir Club
Description: Choir club will be an opportunity for students to develop their musicianship skills through learning choral literature and rehearsing for an end of semester performance.

Creative Writing Club
Description: This club is for 8th, 9th, and 10th graders who enjoy writing fiction and poetry. Students will learn and discuss narrative and poetic techniques, play writing games, practice writing exercises, and learn to critique their own work and the work of their peers.

Drama Club – Acting
Description: This club will be for those students who are cast in the Fall production after auditions. Students will learn good techniques for speaking, projecting, emoting, and performing for others that will culminate in a full theater-production at the end of the semester.

Description: This club will be for those students who wish to create the set pieces, props, and costumes for our Fall Production. No auditions or previous experience necessary. This club is available to students cast in the show if they would like to join (at a reduced price).

Hiking Club- Advanced
Description: The Hiking Club will offer students several opportunities each semester to experience the natural beauty of Arizona through hiking excursions. The primary goal of this club is to serve Cicero Prep’s mission of developing the whole person through demanding and refreshing physical endeavors, the fostering of close community and friendship, as well as explorations of cross-curricular concepts. As to the latter, in addition to enrichment in the area of physical education, through exposure to Native American ruins, geological phenomena, and aesthetic beauty, the hiking club will expand on concepts covered in American history, earth science, and visual art, respectively. Finally, there will be seminar-based discussions of the nature of beauty, appertaining to the natural beauty experienced on the hikes. An “advanced hike” should be expected to be between 5-10 miles with substantial (1,000+ ft.) elevation change.

Knitting Club
Description: The knitting club will teach the timeless craft of knitting for the purpose of engaging students in an act of culture and charity. Once students have become proficient in their craft, we will work towards making items to donate to children in need (i.e. knit together small squares to make blankets, hats, etc.)

Scientia Club
Description: The Scientia Club is for students who want to share their sense wonder with their peers by taking a closer look at the natural world around them. We will design and conduct experiments using every-day “kitchen” items and new Cicero laboratory equipment. Students will practice presenting their results to the club so that everyone can share in the joy of discovery.

String Orchestra
Description: The purpose of the string orchestra is to give students further exposure to some of the concepts they encounter in music classes. In particular, they will be challenged to think more deeply about the musicality exhibited while playing music with others. They will also learn about well-established composers and will be asked to listen for “what” is being said by a certain composer’s piece. In addition, students will learn performance and posture techniques that will make them more proficient at their respective instruments. Finally, students will learn how to be comfortable (even, joyful!) when it comes to performing in front of others.
