Summer Academy Offerings

2017 Summer School courses will be offered on the Cicero Prep campus during the month of June. Students will be required to come dressed in uniform. Below are the courses offered. Click here to register and pay.

For Credit:

Latin

Course Credit: Latin I, II, or III

Dates: June 5 – June 30

Time: 8:00am – 12:00pm

Cost: $400

Teacher: Mr. Hays and Mr. Tipps

Description: Review of the fundamentals of Latin. Incoming 7th-8th grade students new to Cicero Prep are encouraged to take this to prepare for entry into our Latin program. This class may also be taken to review the concepts for students who would like to strengthen their understand of Latin. Students who need to retake Latin I, II, or III may take this for credit, and modifications will be made to make up the more advanced level courses.

Math Fundamentals: Operations & Algebraic Concepts (Two Courses)

Course Credit: 6th or 7th Grade Mathematics (If both courses are taken)

Dates: June 5 – June 30

Time: 8:00am – 10:00am; 10:00am – 12:00pm

Cost: $250 per class, $400 for both

Teacher: Ms. Willard and Ms. Hable

Description: This course will combine instructional time and individual practice on Kahn Academy. This course is divided into two individual classes. Both courses must be taken to complete a Pre-Algebra credit.

Operations – Review of fundamental math operations. Students will strengthen their understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of both whole and parts of numbers. Incoming 6th graders through 10th graders can take this to solidify and build these fundamental skills.

Algebraic Concepts – Review of basic components of algebra taught in the pre-algebra course.

Algebra

Course Credit: Algebra I/II (8th)

Dates: June 5 – June 30

Time: 8:00am – 12:00pm

Cost: $400

Teacher: Ms. Conner

Description: Review of the fundamentals of algebra. Incoming 8th-10th grade students new to Cicero Prep may take this to prepare for entry into our math program. This class may also be taken to review the concepts for students who would like to strengthen their understand of algebra. Students who need to retake 8th grade algebra may use this for credit.

 Independent Study

Course Credit: Various

Dates: June 5 – June 30

Cost: $400

Teacher: TBD

Description: This is available for students who need to retake a course for credit that is not listed above. The student will need to work remotely with a teacher to complete coursework that satisfies credit requirements.

Composition & Songwriting

Dates: June 5 – June 16

Time: 8:00am – 10:00am

Cost: $250

Teacher: Mr. Yost

Description: Students will be taught to write songs an compositions over the course of two weeks. Instruction in music theory will be embedded into the class. 

Prep Study Skills

Dates: June 5 – June 16

Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm

Cost: $250

Teacher: Mr. Julian

Description: Students will be taught the fundamental skills necessary for academic success at Cicero Prep. Students of all grades are invited and encouraged to use this to better prepare for the next academic year at Cicero Prep.

Anatomy

Dates: June 12 – June 16

Time: 8:00am – 10:00pm

Cost: $175 (includes $50 lab fee)

Teacher: Dr. Geraci and Ms. Ellison

Description: Students are introduced to the anatomy of various organisms under the supervision of a science teacher. Students will participate in labs and 1-3 dissections a day.

Introduction to Acting

Dates: June 19 – June 23

Time: 8:00am – 10:00am

Cost: $125

Teacher: Ms. Labadie

Description: Students will focus on the fundamentals of stage acting. Students will learn to practice skills such as:

– Projection/inflection/intonation

– Spacial awareness/body language/movement

– Facial expressions

– Dramatic & comedic monologues

Introduction to Logic

Dates: June 19 – June 30

Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm

Cost: $250

Teacher: Mr. Meadows

Description: This class will introduce basic deductive reasoning and teach students to think critically and analyze arguments. Students will learn about induction, syllogisms, and formal and informal fallacies. These concepts will be applied to the Socratic reading of a text.
